Today I am going to show you how to make these adorable hair clips from a pair of Satin ribbons. So grab your sewing notions and join me as I take you through every step of another one of my blissful sewing projects!
Take Satin ribbons of two different widths. My wider one is 1 1/2 inches wide and my smaller one 5/8th of an inch
Cut out 15 inches of the wider ribbon, fold it and zig zag stitch the two ends together. If your satin ribbon has right and wrong sides, take care to do the zig zag on the wrong side.
You will get a circle like this
Hand sews a running stitch with matching thread and needle on the wrong side close to the edge. I have used a contrasting thread to show it clearly here.
Continue the running stitch going all around till you reach where you started it
Gently pull the thread to gather your flower
Pull the flower shut and sew the gathers in place
Your flower will look like this from the right side
Take 10 inches of the narrow ribbon and repeat the above steps to get a smaller flower. Keep the smaller flower over the bigger one, keep a button in the center and sew in place
Now to finish the back side of the clip, cut out two small circles from felt.
Take one circle and make two snips 1/4 inch apart as shown taking care not to cut through the entire width of the circle.
You will be able to insert the clip like this
Place the two circles on the back of the clip with the circle having the snips on top
Hemstitch in place with matching thread or use a hot glue gun to glue it in place. First, glue the two circles together keeping the loop part for inserting the clip free of glue. Then glue the circles onto the flower.
Insert your clip as shown and let your little girl flaunt your new creation!
