I’ve designed a variety of sewing patterns for organizers over the years, from table- top baskets to hanging organizers. But this holiday season, I’m excited to share something truly special: a gingerbread house hanging organizer!
Not only is this project fun and festive, but it’s also incredibly practical. It makes a perfect handmade gift and can be used to store small items or decorate your home.
Despite the adorable design, this project is actually quite simple. I’ve included detailed templates and instructions to guide you through the process, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience.

Gather your supplies.
Use the pattern template to cut two pieces on the fold for the organizer body, pocket and roof (the second set of pieces would be for the lining).
Your pieces will look like this. Cut one interfacing piece each for the organizer body, roof and pocket.
Cut 3/8-inch off from the interfacing pieces, all around.
Your interfacing pieces would look like this (smaller than the fabric pieces).
If you wish to sew a door and windows for the house, cut two pieces for the door and four for the windows using the respective templates.
Fuse the interfacing to the wrong side of the organizer body, roof and pocket pieces, leaving 3/8- inch all around the edge of the fabric pieces.
Let’s prepare the pocket.
1) Layer the pocket pieces and lining and sew along one of the long edges to join. 2) Turn over to the right side and press. 3) Topstitch along the joined edge.
Sew the lace piece along the finished edge.
If you wish to sew the door windows, you may read the step below or else skip to the next.
1) Layer the two pieces for the door and windows and sew them together as marked. 2) Turn over to the right side (tuck the raw edge of the windows in) and press. 3) Position the door and windows on the pocket in a way that is pleasing to the eye and sew it on to the pocket.
Next, place the pocket on the right side of the organizer main piece, lining up the lower and side edges. Sew along the two side edges to attach, leaving the top edge open. Sew two lines, 2.75- inches from either side to create divisions in the pocket. * *Make sure to reinforce the stitches at the start and finish.
1) Take the roof piece and place it on the main piece, with the right sides together and lining up the top edge of the main piece with the lower edge of the roof. Sew along the aligned edge to join. 2) Press the seam open.
Put the body and roof of the lining pieces together in a similar manner.
Take 4 – inches of the rickrack or lace, fold it in half and pin it along the top of the organizer roof. (optionally you may use a burlap string, a macrame cord or a piece of string that is strong and pretty enough). Baste it in place.
Let’s put the lining and the organizer main pieces together.
1) Layer the main and lining pieces, with the right sides together and aligning the edges. Sew all around, leaving about 2- inches along the side to turn the right side out. 2) Clip the corners.
1) Pull the right side out through the opening. 2) Tuck the raw edges in and press.
Topstitch around the edge and your gingerbread house hanging organizer is ready!
