Learn to refashion a simple plain T-shirt into a ruffled top in under half an hour. If you are a mom, you are always short of time and would love any quick sewing projects like this one for sure. Sewing this one won’t require advanced sewing skills and even beginners can pull it off. I used two white T-shirts I got on sale but you are free to use a 1/4 yard of knit fabric for the ruffles. You won’t have to finish the ends of the ruffles and that makes it a life saver for impatient ones. I have used the same color for the ruffles but think a contrasting color will work well for younger kids too. You can add more ruffles, experiment with the placing and come up with a totally new look. So what are you waiting for? Grab your sewing notions and join me as I walk you through every step of this Blissful Sewing Tutorial…….
Get your  two T-shirts
Cut four strips of equal width from one of the T-shirts

Cut open one of the seams and cut off the bulk.
You get 4 long strips all ready to be ruffled up.
Sew a basting stitch ( the longest stitch on your machine)  using the presser foot as a guide. Take care not to back stitch at the beginning and end. Cut the thread leaving a long tail.
Gently pull on one of the threads to start making your ruffles. I worked half the ruffles from one side and the other half from the other side of the long strip.
Arrange your ruffles on the other T-shirt and adjust the ruffle length to match the width of the T-shirt. I folded in the shorter edges a little for a neater look at the side seams.
Pin the ruffles in place taking care not to catch the back layer of the T-shirt in the pins.
Sew the ruffle on to the T-shirt using a narrow zig zag stitch to allow some stretch and keep removing your pins as you go.  Tada, you have a lovely new top for school!

When sewing the ruffles on the shirt, would back stitch them? Thanks!

I love this! So cute and you see these everywhere! I always have too many tees lying around, I buy them up at the end of the season sales at Target when they're $1 and then always say "how did I get so many tee shirts?" :)
